Twos – Always On The Move

St. David’s Episcopal Day School’s educational program for two-year olds embraces toddlers’ limitless curiosity and active discovery in a safe, nurturing environment. Our curriculum encompasses a whole-child approach to the development of learning and character. Children enrolled in our two-year old program enhance their social/emotional, physical, intellectual, and language development through hands-on, self-directed activities where they can explore in their own way. Unique to our school, rooted in Episcopal tradition, is our Christian values curriculum which fosters spiritual growth and leadership in developmentally appropriate ways. Throughout the school year, children gain an understanding of the world around us, an appreciation for culture, and develop global awareness through engaging thematic units.

Purposeful play is the hallmark of our two-year old program. Through carefully designed process-focused activities based in play, our two-year olds learn important early math skills such counting, shapes, sorting, patterns, and matching; enhance receptive and expressive language development and pre-literacy skills through rhymes, stories, and songs; foster creativity and expression through art projects; gain problem-solving skills through socialization; support emotional intelligence through our Christian values curriculum; fine-tune gross motor skills through instruction in physical education and recess; and boost fine motor skills through sensory exploration inside our classroom and outdoors in our nature center.

Our two-year old experience at St. David’s Episcopal Day School is further enhanced with extracurricular activities such as Spanish, physical education, music, library, and nature-based learning. And a bi-weekly chapel that celebrates all faiths includes prayer, songs, and scripture. We invite parents to volunteer in our classrooms, and we celebrate our families through fun events held throughout the year. Included in our two-year old program is an annual field trip for children to explore in an authentic environment and bring our classroom learning to life.
